Threw $200 at a fancy composting system and ended up with a pile of mold

I bought one of those rotating compost tumblers last spring, figured it would be set and forget. Six months later I opened it up and it was just a soggy mess with zero usable dirt. Should have just dug a hole in the backyard like my neighbor said. Anybody else get burned by a gimmick that sounded too easy?

It's like every time something promises to be easier than the old way, there's always a catch you don't see coming. People forget that the basic methods have been refined over years for a reason, even if they're a bit more work. I've noticed that with my coffee machine too - the fancy pod one just made stale tasting cups compared to my old $20 drip maker.

The same thing happens with a lot of stuff we buy. People think paying more means it will work better but sometimes the simple way is just the smart way.

And @davis.noah is totally right, that coffee machine comparison hit home - fancy stuff just adds more points of failure for no real gain. Sorry your tumbler turned into a mold farm, that EXACT same thing happened to my buddy last fall and it's honestly infuriating.
