Dropped $150 on a heated cat bed and my cat sleeps on the cardboard box it came in instead

I bought that fancy self-warming cave bed off Etsy three weeks ago thinking my senior cat would love it for her arthritis, but she literally chose the crumpled shipping box over the $150 heated bed I set up right next to it does anyone else's pet just completely ignore what you spend good money on?

I mean honestly cardboard boxes are basically cat crack, I've learned to just leave the box out and put a towel in it if I want them to actually use something. My old cat was the same way, wouldn't touch any bed until I rubbed it all over with my hands and put an old t-shirt that smelled like me inside it. Maybe try tossing a worn shirt or a blanket they already love in that heated bed, sometimes they just need a little convincing it's theirs.

Right, @grays13 nailed it with the smell thing. Cats are basically tiny detectives, they'll sniff anything first before they trust it. Maybe try zapping the heat pad on high for a minute before you put the shirt in there, the warmth might help the scent spread around faster.

Literally just threw away $80 on a fancy orthopedic bed and mine sleeps on the laundry pile instead.
