Warning: My DIY sod roll turned into a 2-day wrestling match

Last month I ordered 40 rolls of fescue sod from a yard in Eugene, figured it'd be a lazy Saturday. Turns out wet sod weighs like 80 pounds each when it's been sitting in the rain. I flipped two rolls, slipped in the mud, and the whole stack slid off the pallet like a green avalanche. My neighbor Jeff watched from his deck the whole time and just asked if I needed a beer. Anyone else miscalculate sod weight or am I the only one who thought it'd be light?

Man, I feel your pain. Last year I had the same thing happen with wet sod and I about threw my back out on the third roll. What saved me was laying down some old plywood sheets over the mud, then rolling the sod up a ramp of two boards instead of trying to lift it. Also, I cut each roll in half with a box cutter right there on the pallet, way easier to handle the smaller pieces. Took longer but I only wiped out once.

Buddy of mine tried the plywood trick after watching a YouTube video and he still ate it hard, landed right on the sod pile. Turns out the wood was wet too, so it was like a slip n slide with extra steps lol. He ended up just dragging the rolls with a rope tied to his truck, which honestly worked way better.
