Finally ticked off the last 12 miles of the John Muir Trail switchbacks after 3 tries over two years.

Turns out everyone I saw posting about it was skipping the Whitney Portal water cache resupply and then wondering why they bonked a day later, so has anyone else noticed how often people just overlook that one stop?

Man that water cache is a lifesaver, sorry you had to figure it out the hard way.

and yeah @sean_cooper58 knows what's up, that water cache is literally the only thing saving people on that stretch. everyone skips it then wonders why they're dying from heat stroke a mile later.

@angela_harris nailed it. I learned that lesson the hard way last summer, thought I could push through and ended up dizzy and sick halfway. That cache feels like a mirage but it's real and it's the only thing keeping people from dropping out there. Everyone who skips it ends up begging for a ride back to town.

Thea that's just life though, we all learn the hard way to take the help that's there.
