Unpopular opinion: a clean drain plug is more important than fresh oil
I had a 2016 Silverado in my bay off I-35 in Waco with 180k miles, and the owner swore by his 5k oil changes but had never once looked at the drain plug. That plug came out with so much sludge caked on the magnet that I had to scrape it with a pocket screwdriver for five minutes, and I'm convinced that gunk was cycling right back through his bearings. Half the techs I know say the magnet is just a feel good gimmick, the other half say a wiped plug tells you more about an engine than any dipstick ever will. I've started checking and wiping every plug before it goes back in, and I've caught two engines eating themselves early because of what was stuck to that magnet. So which side are you on, is the drain plug a real diagnostic tool or am I overthinking a $4 part?
