PSA: This engine rebuild is stuck over a piston ring debate
One shop insists on waiting for factory rings to ensure perfect seal, while another says aftermarket ones work fine and save days. Where do you stand on time versus original parts?

Pick the factory rings, unless you enjoy doing this whole thing again in six months. Aftermarket parts might save a few days now, but they often cost you way more time later when they fail. I've seen too many shortcuts blow up in people's faces, literally in some cases. The perfect seal matters for performance and longevity, so waiting is worth it. Sure, it's annoying to delay the rebuild, but rushing leads to regrets. Basically, don't let impatience turn your engine into a fancy paperweight, lmao.

Paige562 is right about not wanting to redo the job in six months. I faced this same choice on a rebuild last year and waited for the factory rings. That perfect seal really does matter for how long the engine lasts. Aftermarket parts might fit, but they often don't hold up as well over time. Saving a few days now could mean losing weeks later if something goes wrong. It's always better to do it right the first time, even if you have to wait.

That 'fancy paperweight' line is spot on because I skipped factory parts once and regretted it big time.
