Overheard a guy at the parts counter say he never uses a torque wrench on lug nuts

He claimed he could 'feel' the right tightness. That's a fast track to warped rotors and sheared studs. I've seen three cars this month with damage from over-torqued wheels. How do you guys handle customers who think they know better than the spec?

Specs are just guidelines for people without good hands.

It's the same mindset that makes people skip reading the manual for anything. How many broken appliances or weird computer glitches come from just winging it? Torque specs exist because engineers did the math, not to insult your skills. Where do you draw the line between a guideline and a rule that keeps things safe?

Ugh, that drives me nuts. Seen way too many stripped studs from that exact attitude. Solidarity, man.
