A customer in Phoenix tried to pay me with a check from a bank that closed in 2009.
Honestly, I only caught it because the date looked weird and I remembered my grandpa talking about that bank failing when I was a kid, so has anyone else had a customer try to use a check from a bank that doesn't exist anymore?

Wait, I don't buy that it's always a mistake. I worked retail and we'd get checks from banks that were gone for decades, like Washington Mutual. The check stock was often faded or the style was super old. It felt like people were cleaning out drawers and hoping it would slide by. After the third time, you start to wonder if they're just testing what they can get away with.
