Watched a guy in Columbus fix a dent with a heat gun and a can of air, and I've been doing it wrong for 12 years

Stopped by a body shop off I-71 last Tuesday to drop off a fender and saw him pull a door ding out in about 90 seconds with nothing but a heat gun set to low and a can of compressed air flipped upside down, no filler, no sanding, and I'm sitting here wondering how many panels I've mudded over the years that could've been popped back out cold, so what's the catch with this trick on factory paint?
