Ricky at the shop in Mesa kept telling me to stop burying seams in mud and I finally tried it on a rear quarter that was 3/16 inch low. Two hours of tapping and it came out clean enough for primer, so what do you guys reach for first on a bad seam?
Man, that backside rust check is smart and I never thought to do it before I start swinging. @mary_west, when you find that light surface rust in a seam, do you cut it out and redo the joint or just treat it and hope it holds? Feels like a coin flip either way but I'd rather know which one actually lasts.
Check the backside of that seam first with a light before you even touch a hammer, cause if theres rust starting in there all that dolly work is wasted in six months. Half the seams guys fight on quarters were never straight from the stamping anyway so you're chasing a ghost.
