Choosing between a stud welder and glue pulls for a dent on a rental
Had a hail dent on a Chevy Malibu rental last month, no access to the back panel so glue pulls seemed safer. Spent $80 on a cheap puller kit, but after 3 failed attempts I borrowed a stud welder from a buddy. That thing got it out in 10 minutes, saved my profit margin. Anyone else keep both methods on hand or just stick to one?

Learned the hard way that glue pulls are not always the easy win people make them out to be. Sure they work fine on big smooth panels where you have room to work, but on a small hail ding with a tight crease they just pop off over and over. You burn time reheating glue and cleaning residue while the clock eats your margin. A stud welder bites into the metal and gives you real pulling force, and on a rental you just grind the nub down and touch it up. I still keep glue tabs around for paintless work on nicer cars where I do not want to mess with the finish. But if I had to pick one tool for quick dent work, the welder wins every time.

Wait, you grind the nub down on a rental? That's the part that got me. I would be sweating bullets taking an angle grinder to somebody else's car over a hail ding. How do you keep from burning through the paint or leaving a swirl mark they notice at turn in? And if it's a lease return, wouldn't the stud welder scar be way harder to hide than a glue pull that just leaves residue? Seems like you'd be trading a quick clean up for a touch up that never quite matches.
