Heads up on the new city permit portal for tech office builds
We started a small office expansion project off South Lamar last quarter and used the city's new online permit system. I submitted our plans for a new server room and got an approval email in 48 hours, which felt way too fast. Turns out the system auto-approved it without a real review because of a software bug, and we got a stop-work order two weeks into construction. The city said they've had this glitch with about 15% of commercial tech space applications since the launch. Has anyone else run into this with the new portal, and did you find a better way to check your permit status?

Honestly that sounds about right for city tech. Tbh our last permit got stuck in "digital review" for a month, which just meant someone's inbox was full. Ngl I've started calling the direct line for the plumbing inspector the day after I submit anything online now.

@the_tyler, your story perfectly explains why "digital review" is just city hall for "we haven't looked at it yet.

Wait, their inbox was just full? For a whole month? That's actually kind of wild. So the whole "digital review" status just meant no one was checking their email. I'd be so mad if my project was stuck because of an unread folder. No wonder you have to call them directly now.
