Finally realized I was overstuffing my dishwasher for 8 years

I've always loaded plates and bowls at an angle to fit more in. Last week my wife pointed out that the water spray was just bouncing off the stacked bowls and nothing on the bottom rack got clean. She showed me the manual from our 2019 Samsung model, it literally has a diagram with spacing. I felt dumb. I never read the manual, just assumed cramming was better. Now I leave a gap between everything and the dishes come out spotless on the first run. Does anyone else just assume they know how to use basic appliances and skip the instructions until something fails?

Manual reading is basically a last resort for me too, but once my wife pulled up that spacing diagram everything clicked. Now I treat the racks like a game of Tetris where losing is the whole point.
