Visited an old Roman dig site in Turkey last week and the difference from 2019 was wild

I went back to a Roman villa excavation near Ephesus that I first saw back in 2019. The exposed mosaic floors were way more faded and cracked now, probably from all the tourist foot traffic and weather damage over the last 5 years. The site director said they lost about 30% of the visible detail since they stopped covering them nightly. Has anyone else seen a dig site degrade that fast from visitors?

Yeah that tracks, saw the same thing happen at Pompeii a few years back.

Man, people act like every little thing is a disaster now. Not everything is Pompeii levels of bad, you know?

Two weeks ago I forgot my phone at home and genuinely stood in the kitchen for a full minute wondering if this was the start of a zombie apocalypse. Like I check the weather and it's a little rainy, and my brain immediately goes "okay time to build an ark." I once dropped a slice of pizza cheese-side down on my own carpet and sat there thinking about how my life was essentially over. So yeah, I'm part of the problem (but at least I admit it, right?).
