Unpopular take on the Cahokia mounds after visiting last month
I drove out to Cahokia in May and everyone raves about Monk's Mound, but honestly the little ridgetop mounds east of the main plaza told me more about their daily life than the big one ever did. Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't we spend more effort on those smaller features instead of the tourist draw? Has anyone else felt the main mound overshadows the real story?

Yeah, that happened to me at a site in Ohio once. The quiet spots tell way more.

Ha, sounds like you got a lecture from the dirt instead of the crowd pleaser! Guess the small mounds are the real MVPs while the big one just hogs the spotlight like a tourist trap.
