Warning: I used to think climbing with just a rope and saddle was fine, but a new friction saver changed my whole day
I did two similar sugar maple removals last week, one with my old setup and one with a new rope guide pulley. The second job took half the time and my arms weren't nearly as tired at the end. Has anyone else made a small gear switch that gave you a huge boost?

No kidding, that's a huge difference. What kind of rope guide did you get? I've been looking at them but can't decide if the fancy ones are worth it over a basic ring and carabiner setup.

Honestly, I went the other way... got a proper rope guide with the pulley last year. The difference on big limb walks is night and day. Way less friction, so the rope just feeds smooth when you need slack. That basic ring setup binds up on me every time, makes the work way more tiring. For me, the fancy one was totally worth the extra cash.

Man, that's the exact same spot I was in. I went with the basic ring and biner to start, and honestly, it's been totally fine for most jobs. You can always upgrade later if you feel like you need the fancy features.
