Hired a guy with a bucket truck for one oak removal in Sacramento, my ground crew finished faster
Had a dead oak leaning over a fence in Sacramento two weeks ago and I brought in a guy with a bucket truck for $1,800 while my two ground guys just did the cleanup and drag. The truck spent 40 minutes just getting set up in the tight side yard and the guy kept repositioning, while my climber could have rigged it down in half the time from the spar. When does a lift actually beat a good climber on a removal, or am I just bad at bidding these tight access jobs?
Watched a buddy eat the same job last spring, tight gate and a leaning pine, and his lift guy burned an hour just getting the outriggers down on a slope. Once the bucket was finally up it was fast, but a climber would've been done and drinking coffee before the truck even had its feet planted. Lifts win on big open canopy work where you can park and reach, not on tight side yard stuff where setup eats the clock.
