Warning: I almost replaced a whole dryer motor over a $2 thermal fuse
The thing had no heat and I was ready to pull the whole assembly, but my buddy in Phoenix said to check the little fuse on the housing first. Has anyone else saved a ton of time on a Whirlpool with that simple check?

Always check the thermal fuse first, it's the most common failure. If it blows again right away, then you start chasing the real problem. You're only out two bucks and five minutes to rule it out.

Oh brilliant, so we're just using fuses as disposable diagnostic tools now? I guess it's cheaper than a multimeter, but telling people to blindly swap a safety part without even a basic check is how you get a call about a smoky laundry room next week.

Are you sure that's good advice? Sometimes that little fuse blows for a reason, like a bigger problem with the heating element or airflow. You swap the cheap fuse, it just blows again in a week. I've seen it happen. Might be better to just do the full check or replace the whole unit if it's old, instead of wasting time on a temporary fix.

Ever had a dryer where the fuse blew because the vent hose was crushed? That's a five minute fix before you even touch the fuse.
