Showerthought: My own fridge dying made me a better tech

The defrost heater on my 2018 Whirlpool went out last Thursday. I was so annoyed fixing it at home after a full day of calls. Anyone else find working on your own stuff teaches you more patience with customers?

Totally, fixing my own stuff taught me way more patience.

Yeah, the patience thing is real. I read this article once about how fixing things yourself forces you into a different kind of thinking. It said you have to slow down and actually see how all the parts connect, instead of just wanting it to work right now. That stuck with me. It's not just about saving money, it's about training your brain to handle frustration in a different way. You learn to sit with the problem until you figure it out.

My old boss used to say you learn more from one broken thing at home than a hundred service calls. Does that patience ever translate back to the shop, or does it stay in your own garage?
