The apology letter I wrote to my dad after I found his old toolbox
I sent my dad a letter apologizing for breaking his 1970s Craftsman socket set when I was 16, after I found it still missing the 3/8th inch socket in his garage last month, and he said he never even noticed but admitted he was sad I never told him why I stopped borrowing his tools.

Wait, is this really that big of a deal...? You broke a socket like 15 years ago and he didn't even know it was missing. Sounds like he's more bummed you stopped borrowing his tools than anything else. Honestly I'd just grab a new 3/8th socket from Harbor Freight for a buck and call it done. No need for a whole letter.

Pretty sure Harbor Freight 3/8ths are made of butter... that thing would snap first time you put any real torque on it. Your buddy probably knows the difference between a cheap replacement and the old Craftsman he had back then. A buck socket from there isn't gonna fix the trust thing either, it's more about owning up to it than the actual tool.

A 3/8th socket from Harbor Freight costs a buck but that letter probably cost him a whole afternoon of wondering what else you've been hiding from him for the last decade and a half.
