I wrote a letter to my old boss in Chicago three years ago and never sent it
Everyone says you should always apologize to clear the air, but I still have the one I wrote to Mr. Jenkins after I quit with no notice. It happened after a really bad week where he blamed me for a client's mistake. I wrote it all down, how sorry I was for leaving the team in a bind, but I never mailed it because part of me still thinks I was right to walk out. Has anyone else kept an apology they knew they'd never really mean?

I used to believe every apology needed to be sent, but holding onto that letter for three years shows it wasn't really for him. It was for you to get the anger out! @murray.jana having a five year old letter proves that feeling is pretty common. Sometimes writing it down is the whole point, and sending it would just reopen a door you wanted closed. Keeping it means you stood up for yourself, and that's okay.

My unsent letter to a manager in Boston is just a grocery list now... I guess my anger turned into a need for eggs.
