Appreciation post: the Tuesday I missed my bus and sat in the rain for 47 minutes in Denver

Ngl that forced pause made me finally write the apology to my old roommate that I'd been dodging for 18 months, has anyone else had a random bad day turn into a overdue clearing of the air?

The "47 minutes in the rain" line hit me hard because that's exactly the kind of forced stillness we never get anymore. We're so busy all the time that we never have to sit with our own stuff, ya know? Like, if my phone dies on a train or I get stuck in line somewhere, suddenly all these half-forgotten things come up that I've been avoiding. It's almost like we need these tiny catastrophes to slow time down enough for our brains to catch up with our lives. That bus delay probably did more for your peace of mind than a whole week of normal days would have. I swear, sometimes the universe just throws a wet blanket on us so we can finally clean out the closet in our head.

and the funny thing is, we fight it so hard at first, right? like that first ten minutes of waiting, you're mad, you're checking your phone every two seconds, you're thinking about everything you could be doing. but then somewhere around minute twenty, your shoulders drop and you just... give in. and that's when the good stuff happens, when you finally hear yourself think over all the noise you've been drowning in. i had a flat tire once on a random back road, no service, and i just sat there watching the clouds for like an hour. it was honestly the most peaceful I'd been in months, and i almost felt grateful for the stupid flat tire when the tow truck finally showed up. it's messed up that we need these little breakdowns to force us into our own heads, but i'll take it.
