I used to think citizen science stuff was just busywork, but last month I did the Audubon count in my backyard and found 47 individual sparrows in one hour. That number clicking up on the app made the loss of local habitat feel real in a way the news never could. anyone else feel weirdly hopeful when they actually see the data pile up?

The 47 sparrows really hit me when I read your post. Our last count showed 32 house finches and I actually gasped out loud at the kitchen window. That little number on the screen feels like PROOF that we're not just watching birds disappear, you know? It makes me want to keep the feeder full and the water clean even on days when I'm tired. Seeing the data pile up over time feels like we're leaving a real record for someone else to find later.
