Serious question, how do you deal with knowing your daily commute is wrecking the planet?

My therapist told me last month that I need to stop doomscrolling about climate change and focus on what I can control. But I drive 45 miles each way to work in Denver traffic, burning like 3 gallons of gas a day. I tried the bus but it takes 2 hours each way and I got laid off from my last job for being late too much. She suggested I just accept that I'm part of the problem and work on reducing other areas instead. That feels like giving up, but I can't afford to move closer. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you just feel worse about your own habits?

Have you asked your therapist what specific things she means when she says "reduce other areas"? Like, is she talking about cutting back on plastic, flying less, or something else that actually adds up?

Yeah @karenh56 it's probably more about flying less than plastic straws.
