Counting my plastic bags for a week taught me where I waste and cut my stress about the planet.

That plastic bag thing shows a bigger truth. We get told to fix huge problems and just freeze up because it feels impossible. But when you track one small, real thing for a week, it stops being a scary news headline and becomes your own kitchen counter problem. You realize you can actually do something about it, which is way better than just feeling bad. I've started doing this with other stuff, like how much junk mail I get or even my screen time, and it cuts through the noise every time.

Oh man, I heard something on NPR about people doing plastic bag audits. Tracking what you actually use is the only way to see the real problem. It turns a big scary issue into something you can actually fix.

Sure it feels good to track your own plastic use, but does that actually fix anything big? Most of the waste comes from factories and shipping, not my grocery trip. Feels like we're just patting ourselves on the back for a tiny win while the real mess keeps growing. Getting people to focus on their own trash might even let the big polluters off the hook. The whole thing can just become a way to feel less guilty without making real change.
