Sub vs dub for Vinland Saga, dub won me over after 15 episodes

I watched the first 14 episodes subbed and felt like Thorfinn's rage was just noise, then tried the dub on a whim last week and the voice actor's delivery in episode 15 made everything click. Anyone else switch formats mid-series and completely flip their take on a show?

Fifteen episodes is a long time to sit through something that's not clicking. Dub voice actors get better direction sometimes, sure, but flipping your whole take on the show because of one line delivery sounds like you just needed a break from reading subtitles. The rage is supposed to be messy and raw, not perfect. If the dub makes it feel more real to you, cool, but it's still the same story underneath. Maybe you just hit the point where the writing finally hooks you, and the dub happened to be what you were watching when it did.

Man, I couldn't disagree more! The voice acting is half the show for me, and if the dub makes the anger land better, that changes the whole feel of a scene. I've rewatched subbed episodes after hearing a great dub line and suddenly noticed emotions I totally missed the first time. Plus, subtitles force you to split your attention between reading and watching, so you lose the visual nuance of the animation. That's not a small thing, it's literally the difference between feeling the punch of a moment or just understanding it. If the dub voice cracks or stumbles in a raw way, that's way more human than a clean translation on screen. And yeah, I get your point about the writing finally hooking you, but timing matters too. If the dub gives you that hook at episode five instead of fifteen, that's not coincidence, that's the dub doing its job better.
