A stranger's comment on my anime shirt turned my view around
I used to keep my anime hobby quiet, figuring most folks would not care. Last Tuesday, I wore a shirt with a My Hero Academia print to the gas station. An older guy pumping fuel next to me pointed at it and smiled. He said he watches every new episode with his grandson over video calls. We ended up talking about how the show handles heroism and failure. Hearing him describe those moments with his family really hit me. It showed me that anime can be a bridge between different people. Now I'm more open to bringing it up in casual chats. That quick talk changed how I see sharing what I like.

Notice how we box people in by age. That guy at the pump proves hobbies don't retire. Makes you wonder what else we get wrong about each other.

Good call @jakejones, hobbies outlive age labels.

Gotta push back on the "box people in by age" thing. Sometimes those boxes exist for a reason, like shared life experience or physical limits. Wendy's right that hobbies can stick around, but let's be real, a 70 year old isn't usually starting a skateboarding crew. Maybe we notice the exceptions because they stand out, not because the general rule is totally wrong.
