Shoutout to the local library for saving my alternate history research

I used to spend hours digging through sketchy Wikipedia rabbit holes when I was trying to figure out what the world would look like if the Spanish Armada actually landed in 1588. Then three weeks ago my internet went down for two days and I walked to the library out of boredom. Found a stack of old naval history books from the 1970s with maps and letters I never saw online. Now I go there every Saturday morning and my scenarios have way more detail. Has anyone else found a better source for alternate history research outside of clicking links?

Have you ever thought that the "real stuff" people dig up could be totally fake and just designed to look old on purpose? Sometimes a handwritten story is just marketing.
