My student's mom showed me her 'for you' page and it was just videos of her own kid
She said the app figured out she was a parent from her search history and now her whole feed is just other people's children. Has anyone else seen an algorithm lock someone into a single identity like that?

Tell her to search for a few random things she likes, like recipes or hiking. It'll break the loop fast.

@rubyk26's got a point but here's the thing - searching for stuff she likes just tells the algorithm more about what she's into. Try searching something boring and random like office chair assembly instructions.

The algorithm thinks she's a one trick pony.

Yeah, it's like the algorithm gets stuck in a rut... you gotta confuse it a bit. Searching for a few totally random things, like how to fix a sink or pictures of old castles, can sort of reset its suggestions.
