Comparing wifi cameras to hardwired on a 4 story apartment building made me a believer

Installed 12 Ring cameras on a building downtown last week and after 3 resets due to signal drops, I swapped them all out for some basic PoE units and the difference in reliability was night and day, has anyone else had to tell a client their fancy gear is just not built for big structures?

Does your client have metal studs in those walls? That'll kill wifi signals faster than anything...

Metal studs will kill wifi signals faster than anything" - man, you're not wrong. I helped a friend wire up his basement workshop last year and he had metal studs in there. Couldn't get a signal past two rooms. Ended up running ethernet drops to every corner, it was a pain. Reminded me of my cousin's old place with lath and plaster, that stuff was like concrete for wifi too.

My buddy ran a network through an old farmhouse that had horsehair plaster... that stuff was like a signal fortress, dead zones everywhere.
