Serious question about preheating... am I missing something?

I've been using my air fryer for about 6 months and never preheated it, just threw frozen fries in cold. Last week I read a recipe that said to preheat for 3 minutes and the fries came out actually crispy instead of soggy. How long do you guys preheat yours for?

You ever just put stuff in cold and hope for the best? I do that more than I should honestly. But yeah preheating makes a huge difference with fries especially. I usually do 3 to 5 minutes depending on what I'm cooking, really just until the basket feels warm when I hold my hand over it. The way I see it that extra few minutes saves you from ending up with sad limp fries.

Man, same here! I was a total non-preheater for months and just accepted soggy wings and mushy tater tots. Then I tried preheating my air fryer for a full 5 minutes before throwing in some chicken strips and it was a game changer. They came out golden and crunchy instead of that sad steamed texture. Now I always let it run empty for at least 4 minutes before anything goes in. Makes a way bigger difference than I ever thought it would.

Preheating is honestly the secret to not eating sad, limp food every time.
