Can we talk about how people think AI art is just a filter
I keep seeing folks online call AI image generation a 'fancy filter' or 'just copying', but that's not how diffusion models work at all. They learn patterns from millions of images to create something new, like a person learning to paint from looking at art. Has anyone else had to explain this to a friend who just didn't get it?

It's like calling a chef's cooking "just mixing stuff from the grocery store." The training process builds a whole new model of how things look, which it then uses to make original pictures from scratch. Calling it a filter really misses the huge amount of learning and processing that happens behind the scenes. That comparison just shows a basic lack of how the tech actually functions.

My buddy Dave tried explaining it to his mom last week, and she still thinks it's just a fancy Instagram effect.
