I used to think hospice was just giving up. My aunt changed that last month.
Three years ago my aunt got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Last month she moved into hospice and I thought she was quitting. But I visited her twice a week and saw how much better her pain was managed. The nurses focused on her comfort and dignity instead of just more treatments. She died last Tuesday with a smile on her face and her family around her. Has anyone else had a family member in hospice who surprised them?

Hospice is giving up on curative treatment, but that's not the same as giving up on living. Your aunt had good pain management and family time, which is what she needed most at that point. Dying with dignity instead of suffering through more pointless treatments sounds like a win to me.

Yeah exactly. Hospice made my dad's last weeks peaceful instead of miserable.
