That $8 phone stand I laughed at now sits on my desk every day
My coworker in the Phoenix office swore by this tiny foldable stand he ordered from some random site, and I told him it looked like a cheap toy that would snap in a week. Three months later he gave me his spare after I complained about neck pain from hunching over my laptop, and I've used it for every video call since. Am I wrong for thinking he was just pushing useless gadgets, or did I actually get lucky with this one?

I laughed at those little stands too, right up until my neck started screaming at me during a three hour call. My setup for years was a stack of old textbooks, which worked fine until I needed one of them back and everything came crashing down mid meeting. So yeah, you got lucky, but honestly he probably just knew you'd come around once your body started complaining. The cheap ones do snap sometimes though, so treat that thing nice.
