Pro tip: check your cooler's door seal before the busy season hits

I used to just trust my cooler was fine until I lost a whole batch of lisianthus last spring. A client in Portland pointed out the flowers felt warm, and I found a 1/4 inch gap in the seal letting cold air out. Now I do a dollar bill test every Monday... slide it in the door, if it pulls out easy, the seal's gone. Anyone have a good brand for replacement gaskets that actually last?

Honestly sounds like overkill to me. My cooler at home has a bad seal and everything stays frozen solid. Maybe commercial units are just built better.

That dollar bill test every Monday seems like a lot. I have a walk in cooler for my farm stand and the seal is far from perfect, but it keeps things cold enough. A small gap might just mean it runs a little more, not that you will lose product. I have not replaced my gasket in ten years and never lost a batch of anything.

My cooler's old gasket was so bad it basically just waved at the cold air as it left. I learned my lesson after a batch of ranunculus turned to expensive soup. Now I'm a bit paranoid about that dollar bill test.

You mentioned a small gap just means it runs more. That extra runtime really adds up on the power bill over ten years.
