My neighbor's package sat on my porch for a week and I finally opened it

It was addressed to them but delivered to my house in Portland last Tuesday. I waited three days, then figured it might be something that could spoil. It was just a pair of socks. Now I have to decide if I tell them I opened it or just slide it onto their step and pretend it just arrived. What's the move here?
