Hit 100 days of returning lost items I find, and it's making me think

I started a personal challenge back in March to log every lost item I found, like a dropped glove or a wallet, and make a real effort to get it back to its owner. Yesterday, I logged item number 100, a set of keys with a gym tag I was able to call, and it just felt surprisingly good. Is there a point where this kind of effort becomes more about my own feelings than actually helping people?

Keep doing it because the world needs more of that good feeling.

What's the good feeling, @jamie940, free pizza?

But what if that good feeling is just a cheap trick? Free pizza feels nice for a minute, but it doesn't fix real problems. It's like putting a band-aid on a broken arm. People might do a small nice thing just for that quick buzz, not because they actually care. That makes the whole thing feel fake and empty.
