TIL I wasted $60 on a premium bird feeder that squirrels destroyed in 2 days

I bought a fancy metal bird feeder from a local shop thinking it would keep squirrels out, but they chewed right through the plastic lid. Has anyone else dealt with this or should I just accept the squirrels as part of the deal?

Did you try greasing the pole or just go straight for the fancy feeder?

Bet that squirrel just laughed at you and used the grease as sunscreen.

I tried the grease trick first actually... spent a good 20 minutes wiping a layer of axle grease all over the pole with an old rag. Squirrel just sat on the deck watching me like I was an idiot. He was back up there within an hour, grease all over his fur, looking proud of himself. That feeder setup you've got there looks a lot sturdier than what I'm working with.
