Serious question, what do you do when a client asks you to hide a safety issue?

I'm a building inspector in Cincinnati, and a property owner wanted me to ignore some faulty wiring I found in a rental unit last week. He said fixing it would 'cost too much' and offered to 'make it worth my while' if I looked the other way. I said no, of course, but the whole report process and follow-up calls took about 8 hours of my week. Has anyone else had a client try to pressure them into skipping over a real problem?

That's just part of the job. You did the right thing by saying no.

Actually, I disagree. It shouldn't be part of the job to deal with that stuff. Good on them for setting a boundary.
