Watching climate tech patents sit for a decade makes me furious
I've tracked green energy patents for over ten years, and the backlog is killing our chance to fight climate change. Key tech for carbon capture gets stuck in legal limbo while companies hoard ideas. I know a startup with a battery breakthrough that waited eight years just for a review, and now they're almost bankrupt. This isn't about being careful; it's about greed and red tape holding back lifesaving tools. Every day we delay, more ecosystems collapse and people lose homes to extreme weather. The patent office moves at a snail's pace, but the planet doesn't have time for their excuses. We need to slash wait times and force sharing, or we're all doomed. My hope is running out faster than the ice caps.

Demand faster reviews or watch the planet burn.

Totally feel this, saw a solar tech get shelved for years while the company focused on oil profits! It makes you scream.

Ugh, this hits home. I dealt with a wind turbine patent stuck for six years. File a provisional patent first, then demand a fast-track review with climate impact data. Like @the_pat said, tech gets shelved, but sharing early designs in safe industry groups can build pressure. I saw a carbon capture patent move faster when the team joined a green tech pool and lobbied congress. It's all about pushing hard on both legal and public fronts to speed things up.

My friend's geothermal patent got fast-tracked in 11 months after they submitted a 30-page environmental benefit report with it. The climate impact angle is the only thing that moves the needle at the USPTO right now. You have to bury them in data showing how many tons of carbon it'll cut.
