Showerthought: I used to think a facial was just a facial until a trip to a spa in Sedona changed my whole view

I was at this spa in Sedona about 5 years ago, getting a treatment myself for once. The esthetician there did something so simple but it stuck with me. Instead of just going through the motions, she spent a full 10 minutes just talking to me about my skin's history and my daily stress before she even touched a product. She said, 'Your skin tells a story, and I need to read the first chapter before I can help write the next one.' That blew my mind, lol. I realized I was just treating skin types, not people. Now I always block out that extra time at the start of every new client visit to just chat. It makes the whole service way better. Has anyone else had a moment like that, where a simple chat changed your routine?

@jade_jenkins That chat is the most important part of the service.

It's not about padding time, it's about getting the treatment right from the start.

Okay but "your skin tells a story"? It's skin. I get being nice and asking a few questions, but a ten minute chat before even starting sounds like a way to pad the time. Most people just want the service done well, not a whole therapy session.
