Hot take: I chose a $30 Chinese hot air station over a Hakko for my main bench.

Everyone said I'd regret it, but after calibrating it myself, it's handled 6 months of daily board work flawlessly. Has anyone else had a good run with off-brand gear they were told to avoid?

Calibrating it yourself is the real pro move." Yeah, no kidding. My buddy spent four hundred bucks on a brand name station just to have it run forty degrees hot out of the box. Meanwhile, you're over here with a thirty dollar unit and a thermometer, actually doing work. It's almost like reading the manual and turning a screwdriver matters more than the logo on the front.

Calibrating it yourself is the real pro move there.
