That journeyman in Phoenix told me my wire strippers were garbage

I was stripping 12 gauge Romex with the same cheap pair I had for 5 years until a guy on a commercial job pointed out all the nicks I was leaving in the copper. He handed me his Kleins and showed me how much cleaner a good tool cuts without scoring the wire. Has anyone else had to replace their go-to tool because a coworker made you look at your work differently?

Honestly I used to think people were being dramatic about tool quality but that first clean strip with a good pair changed my whole perspective.

Hold on, back up. Five years you were using the same cheap wire strippers? That part got me. I can't believe you made them last that long. I usually break my cheap ones in like a year, the pivot joint just gives out. That journeyman must have really opened your eyes though. It's like the first time you use a real ratcheting crimper or something, you just can't go back.

Snap your cheap ones in half and don't look back.
