I spent 3 hours trying to open a pickle jar that was actually a twist-off

Last night I was making burgers and needed pickles for the topping. I grabbed this jar of bread and butter pickles from the back of the fridge and spent literally 3 hours trying to pry the lid off with every trick I knew. Ran it under hot water, used a rubber grip, even tapped it on the counter. My husband came home and asked why I was wrestling with it. He just walked over, turned the lid counterclockwise and it came off in 2 seconds. Turns out I had been twisting it the wrong way for hours because the jar had some weird shaped lid that made me think it was a pop-top. I felt so dumb but also why do jar companies make lids that look identical to the twist ones? Has anyone else done this with a specific brand of jar?

Dude, that is such a frustrating thing. I mean, I've definitely done the same thing where I'm cranking on a lid for way too long and it turns out I was just going the wrong direction. It's like your brain just gets locked into one way and you can't see it any other way. At least you finally got those pickles! That's a win in my book too.

Seth never tightens lids off instinct either.

right? the lid shape is so misleading sometimes, I swear they do it on purpose to mess with us. glad you finally got those burgers topped tho, that's a win in my book.
