Spent $180 on a fancy paint sprayer and wish I'd just used rollers

Bought a Graco sprayer last month to paint my whole living room and dining room. Thought I was gonna save time and get that perfect finish. Spent 4 hours taping everything off, covered all the floors, the whole deal. Then the thing clogged on me twice, had to take it apart in the middle of a project, and the overspray still got on my ceiling even with all the plastic. Paint job looks worse than my buddy's roller work from last year. Total waste of money and a weekend. Anyone else have better luck with a cheap sprayer or am I just dumb with these things?

Used mine to do my whole house last summer and honestly can't relate. I mean yeah taping stuff off is a pain but once everything's set up it goes way faster than rolling if you're doing more than one room. Maybe it's just me but I think people mess up by not thinning the paint enough or running the pressure too high and then blaming the tool. The overspray thing is totally a learning curve too like you gotta get a feel for the trigger and distance. My first coat was rough but by the third room I was getting that smooth finish you can't get with a roller.

Oh man, my first sprayer experience was a disaster that actually made me laugh after I was done crying. I forgot to thin the paint and set the pressure way too high thinking it would make it faster. I basically created a hurricane of paint in my living room. My dog ended up looking like a Jackson Pollock painting and I had to give her a bath with mineral spirits. Took me like two hours just to clean the overspray off my glasses. But you're totally right about the learning curve, once I figured out the trigger control I was kicking myself for not doing it sooner. It's just funny how the first room turns into a horror show and by the last one you're acting like a pro.
