The pixel perfect logo that ate my whole Thursday in Atlanta

A restaurant owner asked me to fix their site logo, just the logo, and I figured it was a 20 minute job. Turned out the original file was a low-res JPEG with a white background baked in, so I had to redraw the whole thing in vector form. Then their actual colors on the webpage were slightly different than the brand guide, so I spent another two hours matching shades nobody would ever notice. It took me 8 hours total for what should have been a quick swap. Has anyone else had a 'simple' task spiral because the client's assets were worse than they claimed?

The logo file was never the real problem. The 8 hours went into guessing what the client actually wanted since their brand guide and website contradicted each other. Next time, bill for the guesswork upfront, that's the part they're really paying for.
