Spent 4 hours fixing a color profile issue that was just a wrong checkbox

Tbh I was pulling my hair out over a digital painting that looked totally washed out after export. The colors were perfect in my software but turned gray and dull every time I saved it for my portfolio. I tried rebooting, reinstalling, even checking monitor calibration for 2 hours before I noticed the 'convert to sRGB' box was unchecked in my export settings. Ngl it was such a simple fix that I felt like an idiot for not catching it sooner. Has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on a tiny setting like this?

You know I used to think that kind of thing was overblown but now I get it completely.

I used to roll my eyes at people complaining about color profile issues, thinking they were just being dramatic. But then I spent 3 hours trying to figure out why my portfolio images looked orange on every screen except mine, and it turned out I had the wrong color space selected in the export dialog. @miller.rowan you're right that it's not overblown, it's maddening how one tiny checkbox can mess up hours of work. Now I triple check those settings every time before hitting save.

Nina says it's maddening and I get the frustration but honestly is this really that deep? You clicked the wrong box and had to google for 20 minutes, it's not like you lost a kidney. @miller.rowan I feel like people make this sound like some huge betrayal from their computer when really it's just user error. The export settings are right there, you missed it, fix it and move on. Yeah it sucks but calling it maddening feels a bit dramatic to me. Does anyone actually lose sleep over color profiles or is this just one of those things people exaggerate to sound relatable?
