DAE buy those vacuum storage bags and then realize they don't actually save that much space?

I spent $30 on a pack of those space saver bags last spring, thinking I'd finally get my winter clothes under control. I stuffed three big winter coats into one bag, sucked the air out with my vacuum, and was proud of myself for a whole day. Then I measured the compressed pile and realized it was still taking up a third of my closet floor. Has anyone else found these things are just okay, or am I packing them wrong?

Oh man, YES. I fell for the same trap. I thought I'd be able to fit my entire winter wardrobe into one tiny box but instead I just ended up with these weird, lumpy, plastic-wrapped blocks that take up almost as much room as before. The vacuum seal does make them flatter, but they still sprawl out sideways and don't stack neatly at all. And the worst part is that after a week or two, the bags always get small leaks and start slowly puffing back up again, so you're back where you started. I think they're a total scam for anything bigger than a few scarves or a single puffy jacket.

That's just how it goes with most space-saving gadgets, they never work as well as the ads show.

That "after a week or two the bags get small leaks" isn't always true. If you fold the open end over a couple times before you seal it, they hold tight way longer.
