The 4 AM fire alarm drill at my kids' school that exposed a real gap
Last Thursday I was volunteering at the front office in Austin when the fire alarm went off, not a drill, and the whole evacuation took 22 minutes because the new kindergarten wing doesn't have a second exit door. The teachers were scrambling to find the master key for the gate near the playground, and one kid almost wandered into the parking lot. I get that schools budget for books and tech, but isn't a safe exit plan more basic than a smartboard? Has anyone else seen a school drill that fell apart in a real emergency?

That 22 minutes is terrifying, I've seen drills drag on but never for that long with little kids. So glad no one got hurt, that sounds like a total nightmare.
