Went with the fan server over my old save file for Star Wars Galaxies, 8 months later here is how it went
When SWG shut down in 2011 I kept my old pilot's save on a dead hard drive for a decade. Last year I found a fan project that would read that file and let me keep my character. But there was a catch. I could either load my real save into the emulator, or start clean on a fresh server with way more people on it. I picked my old save. Felt wrong to toss a character I flew with since 2003. The restore took about 90 minutes because the file was so old. I kept my name and my ships but the fresh server crowd is where all the new content lives, so I am stuck grinding alone. Anyone else load a 15 year old character and regret it?
Ten years on a dead drive is a long time to keep a save alive. Keeping the character made sense, but you paid for it with an empty server. Should have copied the character to the new server and kept the old file on the side.
